"A teacher's purpose is not to create students in his own image, but to develop students who can create their own image." ~ Author Unknown

1. My teacher's classroom management plan is slightly different than others due to the fact that the classroom population is so large. There is a large emphasis on classroom and school procedures and students are always expected to hold up to these procedures in order for them to work efficiently. I think that the plan in the room is positive experience, each student know the rules and the consequences associated with those rules. It is important for all the students to work as one to have success as a whole class. Students are being moved to the next step all the time and this usually because they do not do what they are asked, disrespectful to any other adult in the classroom or their peers, and if they use inappropriate language.

2. Two things that my teacher does to avoid unnecessary instructions is : 1) if a student needs a new pencil then the teacher has previously sharpen pencils to hand to the student in return for their broken one. This way the students are not being loud as they sharpen their pencils and interrupt snack time. 2) my teacher provides snack time for the students during reading or writing time. This helps students get a small snack in their stomaches since they have the lastest lunch and it prevent the complaining about being so hungry.

3. Classroom Management
a. I believe that education is the foundation in society. Education is the pathway to achieving success down every path that an individual chooses. I believe in hands-on instruction and activites. Students learn best when they are help to practice the skill that they have previous learned.  Teachers would create a managmenet that promote positive environment will allow students to see a model of the correct behavior. Classroom management is an important part of creating a positive classroom environment.
b. See image. This a sample idea that I would like for my classroom.
c. Classroom Rules:
1. Respect fellow classmates
2. Keep hands and feet to yourself.
3. listen quietly wile others are talking.
4. Raise your hand and wait to be called on.
5. Always try your best!

Entering the Classroom:
- Remain silent and head directly to your seat.
- Students can work on on bell work that is not completed or read independently.
Bathroom
- Students can raise "one finger" signal to use the bathroom.
- The teacher will either agree or shake his/her head no and the student will wait until a better time to go comes around.
Lining Up
- Students will be called by their table number to line up at the door.
- Students will push in their chairs as they leave their tables to line up.
- As the students reach the door, they will line up in ABC by their last name.
- Students are to remain quiet as they are lining up and as they walk through the hallways.
Going someone
- Students will follow up the lining up procedures.
- Students will walk on the right hand side of the hallway
- Remain silent as they continue through the hallway.
Getting students attention
-Teacher will say "If you can hear, me clap once"
-If students quiet down, the teacher will continue the lesson.
- If students continue to talk the teacher will continue say "If you can hear me," as the number of claps increase until the students quiet down.
- This allows for students to take responsibility for quieting down when it is time for the teacher to talk.
Asking questions
- Students will raise their hand for asking a question.
-They can ask it when they are called on from the teacher.
- Any student who yells out the answer will be ignored and the teacher will wait until a student raises their hand.
Completed Work
-Students will place the completed work in the bin by the door.
- Once graded the teacher will give it back to the student at their desk.
Exiting for Dismissal
- Students will be called by their table numbers to grab their bags and line up at the door.
-Before leaving the table, students will push in their chairs.
-As the students line up, they will remain silent and be line up in ABC order.
- Students will wait for the teacher to dismiss them from the classroom.
-Once the students are outside, they will be able to talk to their walking neighbors and get on the correct bus color as they walk by the bus.
e. Dealing with disruptive behavior
-There will be 4 different consequences when the students are misbehaving
1st Verbal Warning
2nd 10 Minute Time-out in another classroom and a not home in their agenda
3rd 20 minute Time-out and a call home to their parents
4th Sent to the office, called home, and an after school detention with the classroom behavior.

  1. Hi Kerin,
I love your quote at the beginning! My classroom management plan is very similar to yours and I enjoyed a lot of your ideas. I have seen the one finger signal for the bathroom used in the classroom and it worked really well. I also agree with you that classroom management is an important part of creating a positive classroom environment. I think that your classroom management sets the tone in your classroom and can affect every aspect of your teaching.

  2. Kerin,

I really like that your teacher allows snack time during reading or writing time. I think that students need to be able to concentrate on what they are doing and they will not be able to do that if they are hungry. My class has the exact opposite problem we are the first lunch of the day so at the end of the day the students are hungry.
I also like the process of communicating with the parents if the student is misbehaving. I think that this is key. Parents need to know what is happening with their child. Even though the parent is learning what went wrong I would hope the teacher in the classroom would also communicate if the student is have a great day or if they did something really nice for another student.

  3. I think snack time is a great way to avoid interruptions. My class is always complaining they are hungry. We also use a certain procedure for sharpening pencils...it has to be done in the morning or you can trade a broken pencil for a sharpened one. I was wondering why your class is so large. Is there a reason your teacher has so many students? It is a good thing she has good, positive classroom management skills. I really liked the drawing of your ideal classroom in addition to your classroom management plan. You have some great ideas, and you really know how you want your class to be run. Nice job!

  4. In my classroom, we also have snack time because our lunch is late as well. When students are hungry, they are not going to perform the way we want them to. Also, I really like your classroom arrangement. I really like students being placed in groups. This is great for instruction. In your routines, you talk about students raising their finger to use the bathroom. I think this great and I plan to use this as well because there are not interruptions and students can quickly and quieting use the restroom without making a scene. I really enjoyed reading your management plan. You seem to know what you are doing an are going to be a great teacher!

  5. Kerin,
I WISH MY CLASS HAD SNACK TIME!! I think that would lessen disruptions & distractions. I really enjoyed reading your classroom management thoughts. I too believe that education is the pathway to achieving success down every path that an individual chooses. I agree with your statement regarding hands on activities, but think teachers have to pick and choose what lessons they are used for. I have seen many students become bored and unengaged when a "mediocre", low level hands on project is assigned.

  6. Kerin,

I noticed that our teachers had the same rules set-up for sharpening pencils. Many times students use little things like pencils and bathroom as a distraction to get out of their seats.

I really liked the snack idea, but my class has the opposite problem - we eat lunch as 10:14 so by 1:30 they are ready to eat again. We do not have snack everyday of the week but if enough student complain we sit down and eat. This might be a good suggestion for my teacher or somethng I can think about for my own classroom.

The consequences I thought, were pretty good. I'm not sure what grade level that would be for but I think it would work for most grades - except kindergarten. Good work!
